AlgSys_microflu Miniaturised submersible fluorometers

MicroFlu-Bl and MicroFlu–Chl are low cost miniaturized submersible fluorometers for high precision and selective phycocyanin fluorescence measurements in cyanobacteria and chl-a from total algal populations. The combination of a miniaturised design with long-term stability makes them suitable for monitoring of algal blooms and presence of toxic blue algae in lakes and rivers as well as applications in potable water processes and wastewater monitoring. Internal reference measurement of the emitted light compensates aging and temperature dependancies of the high efficiency LEDs, used for fluorescence excitation.

Hand-held devices for Algae Monitoring

iOS Pocket-MSDA software enables the operation of the fluorometer microFlu, enviroFlu-HC with a PDA or with a mobile phone with Windows CE or Windows Mobile operating system. Together with the battery and bluetooth pack Pocket-Power BT, wireless measurements can be performed in the field.

The software stores and displays time series and spectra online and combines the datasets with exact GPS position, which comes from the GPS module of the PDA or mobile phone. TriBox2 interfaces with all TriOS sensors and various 3rd party units. A single unit accommodates up to 2 sensors, but can also be extended to a full monitoring station with a wide range of sensors connected using the various accessories belonging to the TriBox2 system.

Algae measurement is important for detection of dangerous algal blooms in natural water bodies and reservoirs. Water bodies accessed by animals and humans may require algae analysis. Blue-green algae can be a serious threat to drinking water supplies, and public health through toxin production. Continuous monitoring is essential for early detection of harmful algal blooms.
